Can you be ok with where you're at AND dream big?
Do you feel overwhelmed, fatigued and run-down?
Do you long to feel differently about your body, your job or your relationship?
One thing I've found so so helpful in recent years is to imagine how I'll feel when I achieve a certain goal and what it'll give me. It helps to visualise an image (Step 1) and a few words to describe it then stick it on your fridge or save it as a screenshot.
When you do this, you'll find it so much easier to stick to your goal. You're not just thinking about getting rid of your tiredness or weight loss. The image you've conjured up in your mind brings you joy and excitement or maybe you feel a sense of freedom or peace.
Our brain is like a GPS map. Get clear on what you want and the research shows the brain will produce new neural pathways to get you there.
For eg. If you want to lose weight, how much weight do you want to lose or even better what size do you want to be and what will that give you? Will you feel more confident, have more energy, try a new hobby?
Be specific.
Write down 3 things that'll make life worse if you adopt changes, for eg; life will be less fun without your favourite food and 3 things that will make life so much better then create your image.
That's Step 1 but what about the in-between time (Step 2), the time after you've visualised your dream image and the time before it manifests?
How can you be ok with where you're at AND dream big?
When you've identified what it is, the hardest part can be accepting yourself or your life as you are or it is before it becomes reality.
Some days you'll want to give up. That's the time to be extra kind to yourself and allow your negative feelings whilst inviting your inner loving coach in.
Those feelings will highlight those buried aspects of yourself you need to give airtime to, to build a rock solid relationship with yourself, a relationship with yourself that gets you through.
One of trust, one of truth, one of solidarity, one of courage, one of self-support.
And this is the time you've got to employ those habits that lift you up, not break you down. Those long-term life-long sustainable healthy habits that don't cover up the pain with a quick fix but that nourish you, sustain you, support you and don't sugar-coat you.
You're not stuffing down emotions anymore with a bag of cookies or you're not pretending you like to be alone anymore and so there's this huge vacuum.
You see up till now, you've been putting up with not feeling great, whether that's physical like low energy and weight gain or a really tiresome job - they come from the same place - not acknowledging your needs and now you've acknowledged them by getting clear about what you want and you've taken steps towards changing whatever it is and it's confronting.
So here are some of the tips I use:
Check out your image everyday and let it make you smile and relax, knowing good things are coming. (Law of Attraction)
Take time to focus on your breath and tune in especially when you feel anxious.
Ask a loved one for a hug.
Talk to a friend
Light a candle
Meditate
Pray
Burn incense
Walk in nature
Journal
Distract yourself - comedies, life-affirming films, a good book
Watch self-affirming videos
Go to bed (when we're tired, we'll struggle!)
Help others
It's worth it I promise. And don't forget those people - loved ones and experts who can help you along the way.
