So here's the thing. I've been there. I've felt totally overwhelmed, down and stressed and consumed copious amounts of chocolate to feel better. The problem is the chocolate doesn’t soothe me for long. And since entering peri-menopause, my body tells me in no uncertain terms how much it hates it when I sabotage like this. I end up with headaches the next day and and feel even worse than before.
BUT the thing is, in that moment, I FEEL really bad, (note: not physically, although maybe a little tired and wanting energy). No, this is an emotional matter. I want total suppression and distraction on an emotional level.
When you choose a ‘drug’ ( chocolate, tea, coffee, alcohol, cigarettes, coke), so I’m not talking about sugar, carbs and damaged fats like crisps etc..yes - they are not healthy in large quantities and there is some suppression and distraction going on for sure.. but here I’m talking about ‘drugs’ and you can include social drugs ( marijuana, cocaine etc.) at the very extreme if you like.
When you choose a ‘drug,’ you’re asking for a chemical change in your brain. To want that, means you want TOTAL REMOVAL from how and what you’re feeling. You want removal from the pain, the childhood trauma, whatever it is and wherever it comes from, that is making you feel so bad and your need to not feel like this.
This is a BIG deal. This is you saying (for eg.) I’m unhappy. I’m unlovable. No-one loves me. I’m not good enough. I’m not safe. I’m a failure. I never come first. I never get it right, I’m weak etc etc. Whatever it is that your past childhood experience was and caused your limiting beliefs and your now present need not to feel like this.
And by the way, it doesn’t matter so much WHAT happened, it’s how you RESPONDED to it and now respond to present events in your life that trigger the past which is key for your healing and growth ( resolving your health issues).
So I’m telling you now that simply changing your diet is not enough. You have to get underneath those drivers that are sabotaging you. Otherwise you will forever embark on health programs that don’t have a LASTING EFFECT.
You have to build the right foundations. You have to let go of the past and clear the unhealthy emotional toxic load which causes you to sabotage your diet in the first place.
There’s no point in just focusing on eating the right foods.
You have to get inside what is triggering you emotionally each and every day, learn how to be ok with all your difficult emotions and how to hold yourself in those difficult moments in a nurturing and loving way.
This reduces and eliminates our stress response.
Aha! We can breathe a huge sigh of relief. Our body can relax and then all that beautiful food we are eating in addition to our less than healthy habits can actually get used properly inside our cells and all that beautiful water we’re drinking can actually get utilised in our cells also.

You will unleash an inner power so strong, so beautiful, no-one and nothing can stop you from being the best you can be, from bringing your gifts to the world of healing, hope, love, honesty, truth..whatever it is.
This is your time. Rise up beautiful women and men. This is your time to be you in all your glory.
Address your diet, yes.
Address your emotions, yes.
Address everything holding you back, yes.
And be the person you were born to be - the true you, the you in essence.
But be prepared to do the work. Don’t just change your diet, change EVERYTHING. What you think, how you feel then you’ll create lasting change and lasting health.
