Self-Care 101 as we approach Christmas

It's nearly November and we're edging closer and closer to that time of year when our healthy habits go out of the window.

Is this you?

Are you keen to stay on track with your health goals right through the rest of 2021 and beyond?

Do you find it difficult to stay focused, energised and motivated?

I hear you.  This is the time of year when I have a constant voice in my head about how this year has gone and what could have gone better and what I should be doing in the race to the finish line.  My inner critic can play havoc with my confidence and motivation.   (I will be talking A LOT about him or her soon).

In times past I would have gone for the cookies and chocolate but since introducing my mindfulness strategy (see under comfort eating below) together with careful planning and preparation each week, it's practically a thing of the past.  I write practically because I'm not perfect, I do binge out occasionally;)

So I've added a video I made last year for local wellbeing company, Plaisirs because it will help you if this is what you're struggling with.

It's about 20 minutes long and gives you all the basics you need for a healthy body, tips to stop comfort eating and a mention of some wellbeing products from Plaisirs.  I'm not on commission but I do help out in the shop sometimes.  Have you been?  It's a total indulgence in wellbeing.  I highly recommend a visit to treat yourself.

Quick Tips from the video

  • Keep up your 2L water a day, not more than 1L in 1 hr.  Make it warm if you like.

  • Swollen diet - short-grain brown rice, quinoa, soup, stews, curries, salads (in day-light) and fruit

  • Make and follow a weekly plan for long-term success

  • Follow an 80:20 ratio healthy v. unhealthy to include your favourite foods

Comfort eating

  • Stop yourself when you're about to go for that food that isn't in your plan

  • Talk to yourself kindly -put your inner critic in his or her place kindly and firmly then invite your wise inner coach in instead

  • Remove yourself from the kitchen

  • Distract yourself (do a chore, call a friend, go for a walk) for 15 minutes at least

  • Have a glass of water

  • If you still want it, have a small amount and really enjoy it

  • Download - what's this about?  Use a journal.  Do you need an early night, a chat with a friend, soft music + essential oils bath? etc...

  • Check out my video below!
