My menopause journey explained plus top tips with BBC Radio Jersey

Are you emotional, overwhelmed and exhausted going through your menopause?

I'm going though it too so it was an absolute joy to be invited on BBC Radio Jersey with Jenny Mullin during Menopause Awareness Month.

Jenny wanted to hear my struggles so I told her exactly what it's like no holds barred.  I spoke of the first time I experienced migraines aged 46.  How I just have to put myself to bed for a day sometimes and stop doing so much. Be held by others for a change.

I no longer feel guilty for embracing "radical rest and immaculate self-care" as advised by Alexandra Pope (Red School) because if I don't I know what will happen.
I, like many women going through pre-menopause can't get away with not doing this.

Hormonal change is a highlighter of your emotional and nutritional state

Some of the listeners had a few questions so if you're struggling with brain fog and worried about impending osteoporosis, this audio will give you some tips.

I want to reassure you it's not all downhill from here.  You don't suddenly stop producing female hormones.  They are produced in other endocrine glands in the body, namely the adrenal glands but if we're stressed out to the hilt, we will produce cortisol and interrupt production of other hormones.

This is why it's so important to look at everything - your stress, your nutrition and your lifestyle

Hormones are made up of 30 prostaglandins, omega 3 + 6 (essential fatty acids), B3, B6, C,E, Magnesium + Zinc.  I'm not sharing this info for you to shove in loads of supplements by the way - that can be equally stressful if taken at the wrong time. I'm sharing it because hormones are a level above what we need to be focusing on which is actually the health of the cells beneath them that make them.

Our cells need light, oxygen, correct ph & temperature.  Proper hydration, sleep, fasting maybe, diet, time outside and reduction in stress are just some of the aspects of our life that can make a big big difference.

At the end of the day, having a smoother menopausal journey isn't a quick fix. It's a journey back to yourself, uncovering the physical and emotional layers you've amassed to survive

It's an emotional one yes, at times, because typically we've ignored our needs for so long we don't even know what they are.

Some of us are so invested in our family and used to giving we don't value our me-time to recharge fully and we've forgotten how to or have huge work demands which take over.

It's understandable we put our health on the back burner but we can't just as we can't ignore our need to take care of our planet if we want to age healthily and gracefully but also don't you want to have an amazing final chapter of your life (hopefully 30 or 40 yrs) without being beset with health problems?
