How the Summer Solstice influences your health
I should have written this email 3 weeks ago to prepare you. The Summer Solstice is nearly upon us, a pivotal point along with the Winter solstice and the equinoxes. Think of them as more powerful than the monthly cleansing reset of the Full Moon.
If you don't know me well, you might not know that part of my philosophy of health is recognising we are inextricably connected to the natural rhythms of our planet and the universe.
We are energetic beings, a mirror of our vibrating universe, like little solar-powered batteries deriving just a 1/3rd of our energy from food, the rest from sunlight. And yet we look solid. We are not. We are billions of atoms bouncing around. In other words, we are balls of energy.
"We are vibrational beings living in a vibrational universe that at it's most fundamental level is composed of a combination of energy and consciousness"
- Barbara Wren (Naturopath)
When you understand this, you realise that nutrition is just one piece of the jigsaw that makes up our health. That our ability to absorb and emit light determines our health ultimately and this is dependent upon our internal' microcosm (the energies we hold at cellular level)' matching the 'macrocosm (the world outside our body).' (Wren)
This balance of the internal and the external is affected by what we think, what we eat and how we live and Nature's rhythms such as the new and full moons, the solstices and the equinoxes are hugely useful in revealing to us how well we are doing in this endeavour
Are we dehydrated toxic balls absorbing and emitting very little light feeling exhausted, sleeping poorly and full of inflammation or are we the opposite - literally 'beings of light' - bright, energised, happy, fulfilled, connected to our inner wisdom?
Holistic philosophies
What is so fantastic about holistic paradigms such as Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ayurveda and Western Naturopathyto name a few, is how they reveal to us our inter-connectedness with our planet and the universe. For eg, in the 5 element theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine each element includes planets, organs, seasons, tastes, senses, colours etc. If you choose to wear green today you are supporting wood element which has liver as its organ or you may wear blue/black to support your kidneys. You choose coffee over tea because of liver weakness rather than kidney weakness and so on.
It's why Astrology - the study of the influence of our solar system upon us, tells us so much because the planets influence our different organs. For eg; Mars has a strong energetic influence on liver so if it is orbiting close to the earth and has a particular position within your astrology chart, it may trigger a symptom such as a migraine.
Isn't it interesting that the moon in the Zodiac changes every 2-3 days and each Zodiac sign influences a different part of the body, for eg; The moon in Taurus affects the jaws, neck and throat and the moon in Gemini affects the shoulders, arms and hands.
Gosh there is so much to share but..
Barbara Wren in her book, 'Cellular Awakening' cites 3 distinct planetary changes which are currently taking place:
1. The earth's magnetic field is getting weaker which scientists surmise means the magnetic poles are likely to reverse in the near future as they've done many times before. Barbara suggests this change will help us to think more expansively.
2. The Earth's speed of vibration is increasing. Think of the Schumann resonance. Our hypothalamus and pituitary glands connect to this vibration. Raising our vibration could achieve higher states of awareness.
3. There's a dramatic increase in photon activity both in our sun and outside our solar system. This has been associated with giant leaps forward in the past. Remember photon (light) activity occurs inside each one of us as it influences the electrical charge across the cell membrane. There needs to be a strong charge for health, the weaker it is, the less healthy we are.
But these changes are not easy on us. Imagine it like a reset or upgrade. If we are holding onto old, outdated beliefs that don't serve us, if we are eating in a way that challenges our system, it could mean a rocky road for our health as our body tries to raise our vibration in harmony with our universe. This is why tuning into what we need on all levels is key. And we may need help with that initially, to connect with our inner wisdom. It's why the coaching I offer incorporates emotional, mindful, nutritional and lifestyle therapies to facilitate you towards whatever it is you want - super health, loving relationships, rewarding work etc.
The basis of dis-ease
To be balanced, open and healthy, we need to be able to dance with the rhythms of nature and that requires flexibility ("the quality of bending without breaking") and adaptability ('the quality of being able to adjust to new conditions") within our cellular environment.
Our universe isn't static. It is continually flowing and expanding. This state of being is health for us too!
The ability for our 4 main electrolytes (calcium, sodium, potassium and magnesium) to move in and out of the cell is essential for health and we can't do that if we're dehydrated for eg. We're missing the medium that carries them. We can't do that if our cell membranes aren't flexible (permeable) with the right oils for eg.
In dis-ease we become stagnant and stuck both in our mind and in our body. Our cells produce and absorb less light, there's less oxygen, the ph is lower (more acidic) and so is the temperature
This is the basis to all dis-ease and the process of inflammation. Our liver steps in to address the chronic dehydration (caused by diet, stress etc.) by coating our cells in cholesterol to protect the fluid inside the cell or the cell will shrivel up and die. But this measure needs to be a temporary one or we'll affect our cholesterol levels, our fat metabolism and our toxic load.
Left unaddressed or worse still, suppressed, our energy will drop, our 'light' (creativity/motivation/inspiration) will dim, our cells will become cut off and if enough cell change takes place (16 to be exact) we're heading into carcinosin (cancer) where our internal ecosystem has gone awry. Cells which make up systems are no longer working together, gone rogue as they say.
Cleanse with the Summer Solstice
Today let's focus on the upcoming Summer Solstice on 21st June, it's influence beginning already 3 weeks ago (sorry I should have given you more warning!) because this is an optimal time to cleanse.
To up your water intake
To increase your veggies/salad & some fruit (can be quite sweet - beware too much)
Include more swollen grains such as short grain brown rice and quinoa
Soaked linseeds is a good idea too if you don't have diverticulitis or any colitis type issue
Juicing is excellent of course, perhaps smoothies for breakfast
Clean protein such as fish, chicken and eggs
Cut back on the processed foods and 'drugs' such as chocolate, coffee and alcohol to give your liver a little breather
Watch the dairy and gluten too!
And of course plenty of time outside
So really use this time to up level your health. In other words, raise your vibration in tandem with this incredible earth we're living on and universe we're living in so you can slough off the old and reach your full potential
Not an overnight job I'll admit but putting these impactful points in the year into your calendar can really help you. Becoming aware of how they affect you can be incredibly insightful in how you are doing as regards your toxic load and ability to cleanse and feel healthy and energised.
So put the Full and New moon dates in (the New moon does not have a detoxifying effect but it is the start of a new lunar cycle which can trigger the need to set some new intentions)
Put the solstices and equinoxes in which are usually 20th or 21st June, September, December and March. March is the most powerful detox of them all as we move from winter into spring.
Enjoy becoming more and more aware of how inter-connected you are to the moon, the other planets, the seasons and the solstices and equinoxes not to mention your own astrology chart particularly your birthday in the 6 weeks before (breaking down) and the 6 weeks after (building up).
Sending you much love as always and a very blessed and cleansing Summer Solstice
